The North Australian Indigenous Experts Forum on Sustainable Economic Development provides advice to the Northern Australia Ministerial Forum. Chairs, Patrick Dodson and Peter Yu, presented this report to the Fifth Northern Australia Ministerial Forum held in Kununurra on 22-23 November, 2012.

This report captures the most significant outcomes of the First Indigenous Experts Forum, which saw Indigenous experts and advisors from across north Australia converge at Mary River Park NT on 19-21 June 2012, to begin a constructive dialogue around the interest and views on northern sustainable economic development.

The report presents a clear vision of Indigenous aspirations for northern development and a framework towards delivering economic, social and cultural benefits for north Australian Indigenous communities. These will be used to create research, policy and development opportunities through strategic partnering among Indigenous land managers, other landholders, governments, agencies and interest groups.

NAILSMA, as secretariat to the Indigenous Experts Forum, sincerely acknowledges all forum participants for their contribution to the success of the event and production of the final report. NAILSMA also acknowledges the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, the Arts and Sport for supporting this forum through its Northern Australia Sustainable Futures Program.

The Second Indigenous Experts Forum will be held prior to June 2013.
